Chilean President Gabriel Boric said that his country will raise the level of its representation in the Palestinian territories during his tenure to an embassy.
In a speech he delivered at a birthday party in Santiago with the Palestinian community according to the “France 24” satellite channel, Gabriel added "one of the decisions we made as a government, and I think we did not announce it publicly, and I risk that now, is that we will raise the level of our official representation in Palestine from Chargé d’Affairs now to an embassy that we will open during our government,” stressing that the Palestinians are a people who exist, resist and have a history.
According to the France 24 satellite channel, Chile currently has a representative office with the Palestinian National Authority in Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, which was opened in April 1998. As for Palestine, it has an embassy in Santiago, and in 2011 Chile recognized Palestine as a state, then supported its accession to UNESCO.
The number of Palestinians in Chile currently exceeds 300,000, making this the largest Arab community outside the Middle East.
